Brooklyn-based artist María Berrío has joined Hauser & Wirth, marking a pivotal moment in her career. Known for her large-scale collages that intricately weave Japanese paper and watercolor, Berrío’s work draws heavily on her Colombian roots and childhood memories. This new partnership will amplify her global presence, beginning with her inclusion at Art Basel Miami Beach this December and culminating in a solo exhibition in 2025.

Berrío’s journey into the art world began when she moved to New York at 18 to attend Parsons School of Design. It was during her MFA studies at the School of Visual Arts that she developed her signature technique, layering delicate materials to create richly textured works that explore folklore, identity, and social justice. Her pieces often address urgent issues, such as migration and political instability, through fantastical, introspective imagery.
