Limp Bizkit, fronted by Fred Durst, has filed a $200 million lawsuit against Universal Music Group (UMG) in Los Angeles, alleging that the label withheld royalties for decades. Durst’s lawyers claim that UMG used “systemic” and “fraudulent” accounting practices to obscure payments owed to the band, even suggesting that hundreds of other artists may have faced similar treatment.

Filed on October 8, the lawsuit states that Durst has not received royalties since Limp Bizkit’s rise to fame, despite their albums selling millions of copies and enjoying millions of streams monthly. Durst alleges that when new representatives reviewed his financial accounts with UMG, they found over $1 million in unclaimed royalties. UMG reportedly told Durst that the band’s account remained unrecouped due to large advances provided over the years, a claim Durst’s team finds “highly suspect” given the band’s success in the early 2000s.
